The ancestor, Johann Peter August Nieten (1804-1875), married the daughter of a resourceful Johann Bösen and joined his Duisburg-based coal business. After Bösen’s death, the company was renamed “Wwe. Bösen und Nieten.”
1827

Founding of the Duisburg Shipmen’s Guild, expansion of the business area to include the timber trade
1844

Son Emil Nieten expands and founds “Emil Nieten Spedition und Holzhandel”
1860

Acquisition of all shares by Johann August Nieten
1870

Johann August Nieten dies, wife Carolin Henriette Nieten continues to run the company
1884

Carolin Henriette Nieten dies. Her son, Carl August Nieten, takes over the company.
1905

Forwarder Albert Kretschmer works in Tetschen (Sudetenland) for the company Schenker
1920
Carl August Nieten & Albert Kretschmer founded “NIETEN Ges.m.b.H. International Timber Transport” in Tetschen
1924

Carl August Nieten dies after a tragic accident, Albert Kretschmer takes over all shares
1927

Nationalization of the company, shortly afterwards the Albert Kretschmer family has to leave Tetschen
1645

The owner family goes west, new beginning in Freilassing
1949 / 50

Sawn timber transports from Yugoslavia and Austria for previous and new customers
1951

Expansion of the business area through wood imports from Romania
1954

First branch: Furth im Wald. Offices in Berlin (1959) and Passau (1961) follow.

Move to the company headquarters in Kerschensteinerstraße in Freilassing

Development of timber transport from Scandinavia with partner Nordisk Transport AB, Trelleborg

The transport market is restructuring, trucks are gaining importance

New branches in Freilassing, Bad Reichenhall Autobahn, Neuhaus am Inn, Obernberg (from 1983 Suben Autobahn)

Albert Kretschmer and his daughter Christl Lastovka-Kretschmer jointly manage the company
1974

Founder Albert Kretschmer dies, his daughter Christl Lastovka continues to run the company
1977

Son Klaus Lastovka joins the company
1987

Strong increase in wagon timber transport from the EU reform states
1990’s
Opening of numerous new offices on the German-Czech border
1990

Establishment of separate customs organizations in the Czech Republic and Slovakia
1992

Klaus Lastovka takes over as managing partner and owner the sole management
1994

Spin-off of the “Freight Transport” business unit into “NIETEN Freight Logistics”
2000

Founding of NIETEN-Poland, expansion of the branch network from the Ukrainian to the Swiss border

The NIETEN network comprises 50 offices with 270 employees

EU Eastern Enlargement: Cuts, Reduction of Locations

Sale of the “NIETEN Freight Logistics” business unit to Stinnes AG (Deutsche Bahn)

Concentration of Deutsche Bahn’s entire timber business in DB Schenker NIETEN GmbH in Freilassing

90 years of NIETEN: Based in 5 countries with 25 locations and 120 employees

Daughter Maria Lastovka joins the company
